José Carlos Schwarz was a Bissau-Guinean poet and musician, regarded as one of the most important and influential musicians of Guinea-Bissau. In 1970, he formed the Cobiana Djazz band with a group of friends. After the independence of Guinea-Bissau, Schwarz became the director of the Department of Arts and Culture, and also the responsible for youth matters. Schwarz died in a plane crash near Havana in 1977. This 1978 posthumous album released in France only on Sonafric is just essential. Includes the classic Na Colonia, with Schwartz singing in Créole, a mesmerizing tune with deep vocal, somptuous guitar, and fantastic honrs section ! The whole album is just beautiful, I have recorded a long clip. Record is NM, with sticker and radio stamp on label, actual audio clip. Cover has tape removal mark on upper and bottom seam and radio sticker on back.
